Ah spring- the season for new growth and new beginnings.
We’ll take a look at a ProFractional laser treatment designed for new growth – fresher, smoother, supple skin.
This particular treatment involves a laser making thousands of tiny, pin-pricks in the skin surface. While it sounds – and sometimes looks – traumatic, those tiny holes stimulate new growth in the skin cells and provide an improvement in the texture and tone of the skin within weeks. ProFractional is highly, highly effective – and there are several levels of treatment to achieve results – from mild to quite intensive. In certain situations, it can even be performed on top of a Micro Laser Peel – for even more aggressive results. While many people elect to have ProFractional – MicroLaser Peel treatments done a few times a year as routine maintenance, other people choose to treat select areas of the face or body with a goal in mind – such as softening lines around the lips or taking literally years’ off of the appearance of the hands.
How it works
Unlike laser resurfacing-which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site-ProFractional ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This causes the body’s wound healing response to kick in on the affected areas, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. The benefits of ProFractional include a more comfortable treatment, shorter healing times, and adjustable results that can range from subtle to dramatic.

ProFractional can also be combined with BBL™ Photofacial therapy to treat dark patches, brown spots or other pigmented lesions, and can even be partnered with SkinTyte for an advanced tightening effect. The amount of time you’ll spend ‘recovering’ (and by recovering, we mean not looking your best) varies upon which treatment or combination of treatments you choose, and also by the strength or mildness of the individual treatment. Typically, we suggest having ProFractional on a Thursday, for example, and to plan a weekend of at-home activities. While you will still be experiencing some residual effects on Monday morning, it’s typically coverable with makeup and manageable by that time. More aggressive treatments might mean an extra day of downtime, but will allow a more dramatic result as well.
The pain factor!
‘Well, how painful is it?’ you might ask. It’s tough to say as everyone has a different level of tolerance – but we do apply topical anesthetic prior to treatment. In the most mild treatments, there is very, very little discomfort and at more aggressive levels, a stinging or burning sensation that goes away a few hours after treatment is an accurate description for most people. Ology team members regular receive treatment as part of their comprehensive skin care programmes, and we admit to being a group of lightweights! If we can take it, we promise that you can.
